When starting out at Corrections, Case Manager Cam was no stranger to the job title, having previously worked as a Case Manager at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

Eight people serving community sentences in Tokoroa graduated from a four-week trades programme designed to give practical training, a recognised qualification, and increased likelihood of employment.

With hundreds of different roles across the country, it’s not uncommon for staff at Corrections to start in one role and move across to another.

Trauma-informed training is supporting staff to have a better understanding of trauma and be more confident working with those affected.

The programme, which is provided externally, helps participants build cultural identity, through connection to four kaupapa: Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratanga and Wairuatanga.

Probation Officer Robb works specifically with people on community work sentences, supporting them to complete their hours and use their time on sentence in a beneficial way.
